Clean Swaps I Started Doing
Lately, it feels like everywhere you look — social media, the internet, even just chatting with friends — people are talking about “cleaner swaps” and switching to more non-toxic products at home.
I’ve honestly been thinking about this for a long time… but I never really committed because I wasn’t sure how effective the “clean” versions actually were. Like… are they really going to work? Or am I just going to be wiping the same counter 47 times? 😅
Over the holiday break, I went deep down the research rabbit hole — looking into current cleaning products, everyday household items, and the long-term effects of what we use all the time. And I’m not going to lie… some of it is absolutely wild. The amount of chemicals we’re exposed to constantly is kind of scary once you start paying attention.
One thing that really stuck with me: I read that regular use of bleach-based products and things like Clorox wipes over time can be super harsh on your lungs. Breathing in those fumes repeatedly can affect your respiratory health in a big way — and I even saw comparisons that long-term exposure can impact your lungs in a way that mimics smoking. YIKES.
Now, to be super clear — I’m not doing a complete 180 overnight into a perfectly non-toxic lifestyle. I’m not there (and honestly, I don’t think that’s realistic for most families). But I am becoming a lot more intentional about the products my family uses in our home and what we’re exposed to daily.
So I decided to start with the easiest place: cleaning supplies.
And yes — full transparency — I still keep Clorox wipes in my house. My little one has an egg allergy, and I like knowing I can sanitize surfaces after certain foods. But I’ve also found some “cleaner” brands that I genuinely LOVE and feel good about using daily.
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Branch Basics and Puracy — and honestly, the effectiveness has surprised me in the best way. My husband has always been super skeptical about clean products (he’s the type who thinks if it doesn’t smell like chemicals, it isn’t working 🙃), but I can confidently say: these absolutely get the job done.
Another swap I’m really impressed by: Blueland dishwasher tablets. No joke — they’ve worked better for us than Cascade pods, and I wasn’t expecting that at all.
I also want to mention Method — I’ve been using their antibacterial spray. I know it’s not 100% non-toxic, but I still feel like it’s a step in the right direction compared to the heavy-duty chemical cleaners we’ve all grown up using.
This is just the beginning of my journey, but I’m excited to keep learning and sharing what works. I’ll definitely keep you updated as I find more effective swaps that feel better for our home — without sacrificing cleanliness, because let’s be real… we’re moms and we need things to WORK.
